Hi,
Thanks for your email about the JPC Java x86 PC emulator. We’ve been
really pleased with all the feedback over the last week and so we’ve
been working hard on updating the website.
The new improved JPC website and demo (we now have 3 disk images) can
be found at the same place:
http://www.physics.ox.ac.uk/jpc
We’ve tried to include most feature requests and fixed a few bugs
(please let us know of any more):
1) Games, Games and more Games (bearing in mind some requests were
for games which use hardware features beyond the Real-Mode DOS which
JPC is currently capable of). There are now 3 disk images with over
15 new games.
2) International keyboard support. Now if your keyboard cannot type
certain DOS keys, then you can use the drop-down boxes on the applet
to do it manually. The complexities of sorting out everyone’s keymap
proved too much to do in the time, and its not clear the old DOS
version we’re using really works correctly in all countries.
3) Mouse support: The mouse is now much smoother and the games which
use it are much more playable. The cursor can be hidden while over
the applet (double click left mouse button). To release the mouse
double click the right button.
4) We’ve recompiled the applet to require only a 1.4 JVM, so people
who can’t get hold of a newer version can still try it out (thanks to
the OS2 users for pointing this out).
We hope you have fun trying these new things out and keep the
suggestions and feedback coming!
